Great response to Fernweh & more tour dates

Recording, mixing and producing a new record is always an entire journey in itself. When I wrote the music for Fernweh, I had a specific feeling about the specifics the record should convey to the listener. I was proud of the way the band played my music and how the final results sounded. The liner notes, written by one of the most prominent american jazz journalists, Bill Milkowski, made a huge contribution to the success of the latest album.

Newspapers, magazines and blogs throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the US were full of praise for the music on Fernweh. They liked the „almost telepatic interplay of Reto Suhner and Max Frankl“, the „warm and rich sound“ of the entire band and the guitar playing of Max Frankl, that „withdraws itself from every possible categorization“.

There are more tour dats for Fernweh coming up for 2015/2016. The next gigs will be a live radio recording in Hertogen-bosch/NL and a little tour in Germany in November 2015. Additional concerts and events will be announced as soon as they are booked.

Recorded for the label of his former teacher, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Max Frankl presents himself in his album "Home" as a fully matured musician and composer, whose own indisputable instrumental skills are subordinated to the overall picture of the pieces. It's a maturity that does not necessarily seem self-evident for one recently was awarded the Jazz Echo for best national guitarist. "Home" is the artistic manifest of a musician who has recognized that the language of musical jazz composition can only then have an enduring relevance, when all the musicians involved in the embodiment are given equal room to form their thoughts without losing the combination of the single voices. Frankl's ability to set the tone has jumped levels of quality to a league that could not have been expected in such a short amount of time. In great arches full of force, the musicians parley, color and comment. They hold monologues and dialogues whose narrative strength never lets down and fascinates intensely. To be without a home is to suffer, says Dostoyevsky. "Home" is an album to which listeners are always happy to return.

The 30-year old jazz guitarist from Weilheim has, with "Home", released one of the best jazz albums of the year. I have seldom heard a jazz record that sounds so uninhibitedly European and at the same time binds the jazz tradition of this continent so effortlessly with the present, as with this new album from Max Frankl. From this team, a swinging, driving jazz album has emerged that seems to burst with energy and depth. And just the same it remains unobtrusively cool. From this guitarist, we will, want to and must hear more!

The 2012 Echo Jazz winner and guitarist positions his music "in the moderate center of the improvisational modern." Frankl composed pieces for a combination of trombone (Nils Wogram), tenor saxophone (Domenic Landolf), and piano (Pablo Held) that go straight to the ear. His superbly well-harmonized sextet enriches the German jazz scene.
